The Global Pentecostal Voices (GPV) initiative is an ongoing effort to synergise Pentecostal theological reflection from the Global South and undergird Asian Pentecostalism in particular. Through its partnership with City Harvest Church, Singapore, GPV hopes to reestablish local churches as the centre of theological reflection in the Pentecostal tradition.
For this year’s event, esteemed Pentecostal scholars from Europe have been chosen to offer their theological insights for discussion with and critique by Asian Pentecostal scholars.
Much of Christian history includes a broad sweep of Christianity’s influence in Europe. While scholars may debate whether Christianity’s historic centre has been Europe, there is no doubt that the continent’s influence on Christianity has been substantial.
More recently, the massive secularisation of Europe has impacted the vitality of Christian faith in this region. Where Christianity has been a state religion, faith is dying a slow death. Emerging generations are increasingly distant from any kind of meaningful Christian influence. Secularisation is not only a cultural phenomenon, but in Europe, it has also been expressed in political structures that have meant persecution for Christian believers. The story of suffering for one’s Christian faith is relevant to believers in Asia.
Through presentations by invited Pentecostal scholars from Europe, this Summit will provide attendees the sturdy theological reflection of scholars whose personal context is under the long shadow of secularisation. All theology must acknowledge the impact of context and thus, the voices of the European scholars will offer rich insight to consider, critique, and integrate into the current realities of Asian Pentecostalism.

With each of the GPV events, a subsequent set of affirmations will be developed, summarising the interactions between scholars and further reflections by the leadership of City Harvest Church. These affirmations will be made available here through event videos. A partnership with Regnum Books UK will also allow the proceedings to be published in both print and open access formats. Our goal is to facilitate the continual expansion of rich Pentecostal theological reflection, available globally and accessible to everyone.
All digital resources from this event and future collaborations will be hosted on GPVoices.org.
